We’re looking for a Research Engineer or Advanced Research Engineer to join our Concept Analysis Team to help shape the future.

As a key member of the team, you’ll help generate and develop innovative engineering concepts. Using a suite of software tools and processes, you’ll play a vital role in turning ideas into reality—guiding projects from first principles through to prototype manufacture.

What you'll be doing

Our team thrives on collaboration, bringing together diverse expertise in Design and Manufacturing Processes which contribute to a wide range of impactful activities, including:

  • Requirements capture.
  • Feasibility studies.
  • State-of-the-art assessments and literature reviews.

You’ll have the chance to work across multiple industries such as defence, energy storage and transport, aerospace, SMEs, and sustainability-focused initiatives. We'll help you find your niche and support your growth into technical leadership roles.

What we're looking for

  • Concept Development: Experience in generating and refining concepts using systems-thinking approaches.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in methods ranging from hand calculations and tool development to advanced FEA.
  • Problem Solving: A drive to understand and overcome design and technology barriers.
  • CAD Proficiency: Familiarity with a CAD package (ideally CATIA or NX).
  • Verification & Validation: Comfortable with experimental planning, data interpretation, or V&V processes.
  • Composites Expertise: Hands-on experience with composite structures and manufacturing techniques.
  • Team Player:Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders.
  • Industry Insight: We’re keen to hear about your experience in specific sectors, products, or systems.

Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain security clearance for this role. (You can find out more about eligibility on the UK.Gov website.)

Closing date for applications 23:59 on Sunday 16th November. Please don't wait to apply as we retain the right to close the advertisement early depending on volume and quality of applications.
