About The Role

As Engineering Capability Lead at the NCC, you’re the focal point for your capability group. When you’re not working to meet the technical needs of industry innovators, you’re the guiding light for a varied team of specialist engineers, helping them thrive in all they do. 

About the team

Within the Industrial Innovation team, Engineering Services Delivery work extensively with Small & Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) to help them get ideas to market in the best possible way. You’ll be working on many different projects with a wide variety of customers from a variety of industries. So, an ability to adapt your approach, an openness to learning and willingness to build your capabilities and experience. An engineering design background and broad experience of working with industrial partners would really help you in this role. You’ll be working with business owners, entrepreneurs and inventors directly using our three guiding principles:

Engage – be in the right place

  • Connecting businesses to supply chains, partners and support services
  • Facilitating a wide membership network, training and growth services

Discover – have the right plan

  • Site visits and discovery workshops, in-person or virtual with specialists
  • Technical support, offering guidance, advice and reassurance

Transform – deliver the right solution

  • Innovation projects to develop products, services, processes and technologies
  • Adoption and training services to transform and upskill businesses

What you’ll be doing

The days will be varied that’s for sure. Within the role is a good mix of tactical delivery and strategic planning and forecasting, work where you will;

  • Define and deliver the capability roadmap in line with NCC strategy and sector roadmaps.
  • Develop the capability in the team to align with the demands of the business and growth ambitions.
  • Collaborate with sector specialists to plan future programmes and resources required to deliver the programme of work.
  • Ensure effective and efficient deployment of resources to deliver the work and review performance taking corrective actions where required.
  • Shape and provide critical technical inputs into proposals and projects across the organisation as subject matter expert.
  • Develop measures to know at all times what good looks like. Champion ‘good to great’ behaviours and act as a role model for the team.

What we’re looking for

  • Substantial experience in Engineering : you’ll already have a broad general engineering background maybe in new product development, design for manufacture, Composites or Advanced Materials across a variety of sectors including Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Sustainability or Automotive. Passionate about developing teams, motivating and inspiring a team of like-minded people striving to deliver customer focused excellence through a highly collaborative approach.
  • Line management experienceyou'll bring experience of, or a vision for empowering, inspiring and leading a team to successfully deliver project outcomes. You will work with the team to deliver a vision for capability growth and direction by striking a balance between commercial success and impact for NCC, our customers and the UK.
  • A diligent approachwith an ethos of continuous improvement and a drive for quality and promoting positive behaviours. You will effectively manage the team making sure that all members are resourced whilst paying due attention to personal development and performance. You will also work with project managers to scope and plan projects to be delivered by your team.
  • Critically though, you’re an inspiring leader. You will work to solve problems in partnership with the rest of the design team, and in concert with other NCC teams towards our shared purpose.
