About The Role

Senior Third Line IT Operations Engineer (internal only)

Summary; 

NCC is the UK’s innovation partner! We’re expanding rapidly and supporting a range of interesting new projects in the Defence, Energy and Technology sectors, so we’re also expanding our IT function!

Primarily you’ll be working on IT support issues, whilst contributing to project work, line management of third-line IT Operations engineers and provision of technical leadership to optimise the performance of the technology infrastructure. Provides deep subject matter expertise for the resolution of incidents and problems with NCC IT services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitors performance and working relationships and provides feedback to address individual issues and actively participates in formal processes such as recruitment, reward, promotion and disciplinary procedures.
  • Acts as a point of technical escalation for the Third Line IT Operations Engineers as well as providing technical and operational expertise to the wider IT Operations Team and IT Leadership Team
  • Maintains good overall knowledge of all areas of the NCC’s information systems, infrastructure and applications.
  • Uses security and operational risk analysis methods, tools and techniques to identify potential exposures of information systems.
  • Provides technical and procedural guidance to team members.
  • Oversees the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure/software components and software/infrastructure-based services.
  • Undertakes the planning, estimation and scheduling of installation/decommissioning work.
  • Aligns all operations procedures to service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards.
  • Investigates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and services. 
  • As required and/or directed by the IT Leadership team evaluates and makes recommendations/decisions on technical options as appropriate, actively contributing to organisation's technical strategies., e.g. PIDs, Requirements, HLD, LLD, SoW

What do we need to see in your application:

  • Experience of working in a 3rd Line IT Engineer role. 
Detailed working knowledge of:
  • Microsoft desktop & server operating systems
  • Microsoft Office
  • Ethernet, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, firewalls and VPN technologies
  • Wireless network
  • Experience of supporting iPhones and iPads
  • Active Directory User and Security administration
  • System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Comprehensive understanding of Networking and VLAN infrastructure
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining Backup and recovery systems
  • Patch management including OS and Applications COTS and Non-COTS)
  • Systems monitoring and reporting
  • Linux Administration
  • Azure Administration including
  • Azure Active Directory
  • Licensing admin
  • Subscriptions, Resource groups etc.
  • Enterprise Apps
  • App Proxies
  • AD Connect
  • Security compliance
  • AD Federation Services
  • Sentinel/SOC config and integration
  • Cloud Management Gateway
  • VPN & Remote Access
  • Good understanding of common regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, etc.).
