About The Role

Senior Second Line IT Operations Engineer (internal only)

Summary; 

NCC is the UK’s innovation partner! We’re expanding rapidly and supporting a range of interesting new projects in the Defence, Energy and Technology sectors, so we’re also expanding our IT function!

Primarily working on IT support issues, line manages the second line support engineers while providing second line support to the NCC’s IT Systems and users. Performing diagnosis and resolving hardware, software and infrastructure Incidents and Service Requests.  You’ll also administers and maintains the NCC IT system, to provide optimum user access and system availability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Works to line manage the second-line IT Operations team and provides technical
  • Monitors performance and working relationships and provides feedback to address individual issues and actively participates in formal processes such as recruitment, reward, promotion and disciplinary procedures
  • Acts as a point of escalation for the Second Line IT Support Engineers and for the whole of the IT Operations Team as required.
  • Delivers the diagnosis and resolution of hardware and software incidents across a range of operating systems, hardware platforms and software applications including but not limited to laptops, desktops, mobiles, tablets, printers and servers. Investigates causes of incidents and seeks resolution.
  • Ensures that documentation of supported components is available and accessible to all who need to use it. 
  • Facilitates the installation and configuration of new and updated IT capability. 
  • Manages IT fixed asset reporting, ensuring that administration of the acquisition, storage, distribution, movement and disposal of assets is carried out.
  • Ensures that appropriate performance analysis equipment and diagnostic tools are used to test the hardware and/or software affected.
  • Maintains the highest level of service to our staff and building users, in an appropriate manner, ensuring that their tasks are resolved within agreed timescales.

What do we need to see in your application:

  • Experience of working in a 2nd Line IT Engineer role.
 Detailed working knowledge of:
  • Microsoft based operating systems
  • Microsoft Office
  • Windows server
  • Ethernet, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, firewalls and VPN technologies
  • Wireless network
  • Experience of supporting iPhones and iPads
  • Active Directory User and Security administration
  • System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • VPN & Remote Access
  • Awareness of common regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
